The hotel body calls for government intervention to revive the hotel sector

The Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of India has suggested various measures and sought government intervention for the revival and growth of the hospitality industry.

Recommendations include making tourism a priority sector, granting infrastructure status to the hospitality industry, ensuring better credit facilities, subsidies and incentives, streamlining the GST, continuing the EPCG program , favorable liquor licensing policies, and the need for a platform similar to Open Network for Digital. Trade (ONDC) for the hotel industry, among others.

“To commemorate 75 years of India’s independence, we propose that the FHRAI and its associations, with the support of the Ministry of Tourism, wish to showcase and host 75 regional cuisines in each of the food festivals,” said Gurbaxish Singh Kohli, Vice President of FHRAI. .

The sector has been hit by the coronavirus pandemic. COVID-19 over the past two years has affected about 60-70% of its revenue, FHRAI said.

The tourism and hospitality industry in India has tremendous potential to be the key driver in accelerating the socio-economic development of the country. To achieve this, tourism must be declared a priority sector in the country with special incentives and benefits to help the sector reach its true potential, Kohli said.
