SBI regularly publishes Netbanking security guidelines for users to help prevent scams, fraud and phishing attacks. If you are an SBI account holder, you need to know this.
Online fraud and phishing attacks are the most common cyberattacks faced by individuals and organizations, according to the State Bank of India. However, Net Banking users are also always at risk.
You can protect yourself against such attacks and save your money by following these simple guidelines issued by the State Bank of India.
1. Secure SBI CONNECTION:
You should never use simple or common passwords in your login information. Make sure your password is complex and unique. Users should never share their user ID, password, debit/credit card number, PIN, CVV with ANYBODY. Change your passwords regularly to avoid hacking.
2. SBI URL:
Whenever you open the bank’s website, always make sure it is an “https” link. If you travel from place to place, never use public Wi-Fi networks to make transactions. ALWAYS remember to log out after each session. Never keep your banking credentials the same as your other online accounts. Never save your login credentials on your browser as they can easily be misused.
3. UPI Protection:
NEVER set up your UPI PIN the same as your Mobile PIN. If you receive unknown UPI transaction requests, never respond to them. Instead, report such requests to the Bank. If a transaction has taken place without your permission, immediately deactivate your UPI account and contact your bank. Your UPI PIN is only required to send money, not to receive it, so never share it with anyone.
4. Social media:
Do not share your personal or financial information with ANYONE on social media platforms. If you want to transact with someone, always confirm the person’s identity first.
5. Credit/Debit Card Protection:
NEVER share your credit/debit card CVV or OTP with anyone. When performing ATM transactions, always cover your keypad when entering sensitive details like PIN. Before buying from e-commerce sites, always check the credibility of the website.
6. Mobile banking:
Set a strong Mobile PIN and NEVER share it with anyone. Additionally, enable biometric authentication to prevent unauthorized access. Do not download any application from any source other than Google Play Store or App Store.
