Precautionary Measures Taken in the State to Maintain Law and Order: Bommai

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai held a high-level meeting with senior police officials on Saturday amid violent protests in

Uttar Pradesh and the nation’s capital following ‘controversial’ remarks about the Prophet Muhammad made by two now-suspended BJP leaders.

Speaking to the media in Hubballi, Bommai said currently the situation is peaceful in the state. The police have been instructed to deploy the forces to sensitive areas. The deployment of KSRP contingents is already underway. “I have spoken to Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner and Dharwad SP to take appropriate action.”

Police inspectors from all police stations have been instructed to interact with community leaders in their respective areas to maintain peace and harmony, he said.

He further said experts would be urged to formulate stricter laws to deal with those who engage in acid attacks, CM Bommai said.

Responding to a question about another acid attack case in Bangalore, he said: “It’s very unfortunate. We are thinking about further strengthening the existing laws to deal with those who carry out acid attacks. ‘acid. them in the days to come.’
