Emmanuel Amadi, a Lagos-based businessman, accused Jumia Nigeria, an e-commerce company, of refusing to refund him after a failed transaction of 181,390 naira on April 1.
Amadi told FIJ that he wanted to buy a laptop on Jumia Nigeria, and although the transaction did not go through, N181,390 left his account.

“I wanted to buy a laptop on April 1st so I decided to buy it online from Jumia Nigeria using my Zenith Bank card. According to them the transaction was not successful but the money left my The price of the laptop was 181,390 naira and that’s how they took my hard earned money,” he said.
Amadi told FIJ that all his efforts to recover the money had yielded no positive results.
“I have filed a complaint against Jumia Nigeria and Zenith Bank and I will not stop until I get my money back. Zenith Bank told me the payment has been made. A Jumia customer service agent confirmed he received the money, then at some point he said he had trouble with his finance team, now they completely deny it.

The businessman said he contacted Jumia Nigeria several times but the responses were vague. He said a Jumia customer service representative once admitted to receiving the money and promised that it would be refunded, but customer service later said he had not received the money.
FIJ made several calls to Jumia Nigeria and Zenith Bank but they received no response. Emails sent to them had also not been answered at press time.
