Ipswich and Norwich law firm appoints new boss

A regional law firm has appointed a new managing director after an internal promotion.

James Tarling takes the reins of Ashtons Legal from Ed O’Rourke, who remains with the firm.

Mr Tarling, who joined the company in 2015 as a corporate and business partner, said he was “proud” to lead the company.

“The firm has experienced significant growth recently, notably thanks to the strategic acquisitions of a franchise consulting firm, a human resources consulting firm, a specialist French law firm, a team of insolvency and most recently Steeles Law’s full-service business in late 2021,” he said. .

“A key part of this growth has been the result of the work Ed has done to establish an open and progressive culture within Ashtons Legal.”

He added: “We have ambitious plans to continue growing Ashtons business over the next three years. We seek to recruit other talented and ambitious individuals and teams who share our vision of being an exceptional professional services provider that puts our clients at the center of everything we do.

“I am fortunate to take on the role in a flexible, inclusive and progressive company with the support of a fantastic team of individuals who are all focused on working together to deliver great results for our clients” .

Mr. O’Rourke will initially take on a new role to further develop Ashtons’ commercial customer base.

“I have enjoyed my time at the helm but it is time for new blood and new ideas and James is the best possible person to take Ashtons forward,” he said.

Ashtons Legal employs 400 people in its offices in Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge, Diss, Ipswich, Leeds and Norwich.
