eBay will first ask you what you are selling to match the listing template with similar items already sold or currently on sale. Select the one that most closely resembles yours and choose to Use this product if such products are available. Otherwise, you can fill in your item details from scratch.

When you fill in your item details, you will find that some fields are required, marked with a red star. Details may include brand, size, type, color, style, or other relevant information about your sale item. Try to provide as much detail as possible to ensure your item gets the best exposure on eBay and external sites like Google Shopping. It’s also a good idea to include original photos of your product from different angles so buyers can see its condition.
You will need to add the item’s weight and dimensions to calculate shipping charges. You can decide whether you or the buyer pay for shipping, but it’s quite rare to find a seller who pays their own shipping costs, especially when selling internationally. You can save drafts of your ads to complete them later, which you can find on the Drafts page in My eBay. Read on for pricing tips to turn your listing into a sale.
How to Choose the Right Price for Your eBay Listing
If you are unsure of the value of your item, you can search eBay for similar products to get an idea of what other sellers are charging. You can also see the price of similar items that have sold in the past. To do this, scroll down on the search results page and in the left navigation bar check the boxes next to Items Sold and Lists completed. This gives you a selection of the price at which to sell an item on eBay.
Once you have a price for your item in mind, it’s time to decide on your ad format.
Fixed Price vs Auctions
If you only have one price that you are willing to accept, choose a fixed price. However, you can let buyers bid to allow for negotiation. The company states that allowing bids increases your chances of selling by 3-7%, so it doesn’t hurt. You can also automatically configure your ad to refuse offers below a certain threshold or accept offers above another.
The other option is to create an auction-style listing for buyers to compete for your item. In this case, it is better to choose a low starting price to generate interest. If you don’t see much activity on your auction at first, don’t worry; It’s normal. Buyers will often place their bids just before the end of the sale, hoping to get them as cheaply as possible. In specific categories, you can add a Reserve Price. This is the lowest price you’re willing to sell an item for on eBay, so you don’t have to settle for anything less than you’re comfortable with.
If you have an ideal price for which you want to sell an item on eBay, but still want to put it up for auction, you can add a Buy it now price. However, the price must be at least 40% higher than the starting price.
What are the eBay fees for selling?
As with most services, eBay will take a cut of transactions on its platforms to operate. They charge two main selling fees: an insertion fee when you create an ad and an end value fee when your item sells. How much they charge depends on the price of the item, the format and category your item is listed in, any optional upgrades you add, and your seller’s performance.
You get up to 200 free listings each month, which should be enough for individual sellers. On the other hand, the final price commission is calculated as a percentage of the total sale amount, plus $0.30 per order. For a full list of prices see eBay selling fee guidelines.
